As Asterios Polyp might say, there are two kinds of readers in the world, those who think they have a handle on what's possible with the graphic novel and those who are totally out of the loop. Anyways, one thing that bothers me about all this reviewing about Asterios Polyp is that nobody seems to ENJOY the comic. The result is ASTERIOS POLYP, a book whose scope is formally ambitious and enormously clever but whose concerns are deceptively simple. 2009's Asterios Polyp is a lush, fascinating, complex book. I reviewed this graphic novel at the beginning of the creation of the blog, but somehow, that review has been lost, but that is fine, because Asterios Polyp is a graphic novel that deserves a second look. Asterios Polyp is the type of graphic novel that causes critics like me to rub our hands together frantically and salivate. I am still plotting my AP tattoo, in case you were wondering.
