Review: The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, Alan Bradley. "The sweetness of the bottom of the pie" is one of funniest and extraordinary books I've ever read. I think we ALL fell in love with the curious, spunky and precocious 11 year old main character, Flavia de Luce! And perhaps that's another reason why I enjoyed The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie so much. The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley. Well, Flavia de Luce isn't Lord Peter Wimsey, but I still enjoyed this mystery novel with an 11-year-old heroine set in 1950's rural England. Flavia is an amazing heroine and you just have to adore her (at least I did). However, a dear friend and reader of this blog sent me a copy of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie, promising me that I would enjoy it, and so I took the leap outside of my literary comfort zone and gave it a go.
